Since Xecuter SX can only play cartridge based "backup games" for now, does that mean there are no ways to play game DLCs with Xecuter SX? For example, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLCs can only be purchased/downloaded from Nintendo eshop online.

You can still buy and download the DLC with cartridge backups. Unless you meant pirating the DLC?

I don't mind buying the DLCs, but I want to make sure won't get banned if I use the DLC with backups.:ninja:

The backups look just like a cart to Nintendo. There's no difference between mounting a virtual game card and borrowing or renting one.

That's not true at all, all carts have a unique header, and Nintendo will be able to see lots of people using an identical cart.

If you go online inside the game, yes. Downloading DLC or Updates for it is fine. It was like that on the 3DS as well.

Nintendo learnt from the 3DS. There's no way to say, at all, if you won't get banned from DLC or updates.

You could be right, but the Switch eshop does have a number of differences, such as sending your unique console information to Nintendo's servers for every request. I don't think it's safe to assume that downloading updates is perfectly fine.

Easy, we just need an header patcher like the one for the 3ds so we can load our private headers.

But is this enough for Nintendo to actually start banning people? AFAIK they will be earning money off those DLC downloads.

You're right, business-wise people still being able to purchase stuff makes sense. But these are the people who would probably pirate everything if given the chance and only download updates and free stuff from official servers, which would only cost Nintendo money. And besides, there's really no way to know what will happen. There might be bans, there might not, but it's definitely not safe to assume there won't be.

Everything that is being dumped (by BBB?) will be usable in the near future so it's a question to BBB in the first place whether they'll be able to dump updates and DLCs as well.
Then the only question is whether updates/DLCs have to be patched into the XCI files like we did with "Loadiine ready" games for the Wii U or whether the backup loader (from SX OS) will be able to to look for something like
    Code:
    Zelda.BotW.xci
    Zelda.BotW_update.xci
    Zelda.BotW_dlc.xci

to be present in the same folder.

Updates and dlc won't be in xci format (more likely nsp or nca).

But i'm sure there will never be a way to put them as single files on sd-card.
    They have to be installed.
We might see a package installer soon.

As far as game certs go, we will probably be looking at blacklists of certain certs. Pre-owned market exists, so DLC for same cert games will almost definitely not result in a ban. Updates too are unlikely for an offline game, unless a high volume of simultaneous requests occur.

However, for publicly available dumps, such as those from BBB the chance of the cert being placed on a blacklist are massive. These certs would be used many many times simultaneously, especially if any online features exist.

Best bet to stay safe would be to dump your own carts before reselling, or renting. However even then there is no guarantee at all, risk is still present.

Nintendo have to be carefull when banning due to game certs, the cert alone does not indicate who has a genuine copy and who doesn't, unless it has been blanket blacklisted due to public availability.

Let me understand right, if you get banned you can't even buy things on eshop, nor update console firmware? Or you're only banned from playing online?

You can't access the eshop, but you can still update games (confirmed by someone who was banned).

Sadly I don't think so. They got a much better protection this time and try everything to have a secure modern system. I mean I would wish if piracy would work as easily as on 3ds or wiiu but sadly it isn't the case.
